MARTINA McBRIDE
If one goes to a true audiophile emporium to evaluate equipment, especially
speakers, the sales person will invariably place a CD with a female voice in the tray to be spun. That's because quality
female voices are clearer than quality male voices. ( Hey, guys, "simma-down," I not talking about Pavoratti, Boccelli
or operatic voices in general.)
Martina has such a voice that one would like to hear her singing when
evaluating speakers... not because she will stress the high-end tweeters... but because she possesses a clear, quality,
strong voice which could easily distinguish the difference between Memorex's "Is it real... or is it recorded?"
I like Martina McBride... a lot... not for all of her songs, but her
voice and for her person, who is dedicated to causes. However, as you will read, if you click the link to Amazon, there
are those who have mixed feelings in the reviews. As I, who can't carry a note in a hand-basket, like to comment, "If
only they could sing as well!"
So why... among the hundreds of songs which are appropriate for this
webpage on weddings... did I pick "Valentine" to embed in the background. The answer is simple. And, it has nothing
to do with the title nor Billboard or other charts.
THE TRUTH IS THAT I NORMALLY PLAY THIS TUNE AS BACKGROUND DURING THE
DINNER MUSIC OF A WEDDING ... AND, INVARIABLE ONE OR A FEW PEOPLE WILL INQUIRE ABOUT "WHO-SANG-IT-AND-ON-WHAT-CD" AFTER
THE DINNER.
What this means to me is, that while enjoying the conviviality
of the table where they were seated, guests, consciously or unconsciously, "dailed-in" the song... and liked it enough
to inquire about it. Why?... Singer? Lyrics? Orchestration? Who knows... Who really cares. Martina's
"Valentine" literally resonates with peoples' emotions... ya, even guys.
And... that is why you're listening to it and her, right now.
